Far Left: Okakura Tenshin in the uniform he devised for the Tokyo Art School--which the students hated for its absurd, Orientalist, quasi-Chinese appearance. And in the middle is Okakura in his Daoist (=Taoist) recluse outfit. At right is a portrait, ostensibly of a Chinese poet, by Yokoyama Shigeru. But it is generally regarded as being inspired by Okakura and is actually a symbolic painting of Okakura.
