The labels read: obsessive consumers, black market merchants, nihilists, those fond of Western customs, decadents, hedonists, hoarders, dogmatists, supporters of the status quo.
Throughout the war years Japanese media attacked those whose social, cultural, and moral values might be suspect. The above list is typical of the "decadent Western values" against which Japan was allegedly fighting.
