In this mid-1920s cartoon, politicians suck up to the unenlightened masses for votes. The context of this cartoon is an ever-widening voting population. By the late 1920s, all adult males were enfranchised. Both left-wing and right-wing commentators often criticized this state of affairs. The broader critique, of course, is of politics-as-pandering.
