宮さん宮さん (Miya-san miya-san)

I originally recorded this song using a cassette 4-track machine based on the text in a Japanese songbook. These MP3 files are the result of running the cassette recording through a digital recorder. There may be a small quantity of background noise as a result of these conversions and because of the analog origins of the sound. The instruments are voice, guitar, rhythm mandolin, and lead mandolin--not exactly what would have been used in Japan in 1868, but the melody is authentic, and I have tried to make the mandolin sound roughly like a shamisen.

*吾妻へ (Azuma e),  is a play on words. Azuma means "east," but, as written here, also means "my wife."
