Typical iconographic features of the Wagô twins:

1. Child-like hair style;

2. Trampling various kinds of (or symbols of) wealth underfoot;

3. Bellies protrude from robes on which are dyed the images of coins;

4. Simple, even vulgar or coarse overall appearance;

5. One holds an oil lamp in one hand and a bowl in the other;

6. The bowl is filled with coins, jewels, or other valuable objects;

7. The other holds high a lotus stalk with flower w/one hand and . . .

8. . . . the other hand rests on the shoulder of the twin in the foreground to convey a sense of a close bond;

9. In contrast with childish hair and clothing, their faces are those of old men--exact age is hard to determine.

Note: Not all Wagô images contain all of these iconographic features. Many omit at least one or two--#for example.#
