This poster from late in the war is a classic example of the enemy-as-oni. The text at the far right of the image says "Resolutely Attack the American Devils!" The word I have rendered as "devils" is oni (second character down). On the opposite side of Roosevelt's head, he mutters "Kill Japanese! Wipe all Japanese from the face of the earth!"--which was indeed the sentiment of many Americans at that time (*an example*). The text at the bottom of the poster is the main message: Produce more planes! Send more planes! The marks of the beast are relatively subtle: a slightly twisted face and a clawed forefinger.
