So-called "pleasure boats of beauties" dotted the waters around Ryôgoku Bridge. Pictured here are a small yanebune (roofed-boat) in the foreground and a larger yakatabune (cabin boats) in back. The man in the yanebune is slicing up some fresh fish while a puppet play, complete with musical accompaniment, is being staged in the yakatabune. It also appears that some dalliance is going on between the pipe-smoking beauty and the reclining dandy kicking back on the roof.
