More Sights on the Banks of the Sumida (1803)

Wedged between a couple teahouses along the waterfront, a storyteller is narrating war tales to a packed house and has attracted the attention of a few pilgrims in straw hats, possibly alms-seeking monks. The three shaved pates huddled above the dark canopy on the right surely belong to Buddhist priests (prayer beads are visible around one's neck). In the left foreground is a booth selling pictures, two samples of which hang from the roof.
